Break these beauty rules

Saturday, August 04, 2012   |
Break these beauty rulesWe keep telling you to do this and do that, oh and don't forget about THAT. But some times you're allowed to break a few beauty rules. Bella Sugar explains which rules you can break, and how to do break them, properly.

When it comes to beauty, there are no absolutes. While a make-up artist or hairstylist may have laid out the rules, it's time to bust some beauty myths wide open. Never say never is the only law to live by. Start your rebellion and renounce these beauty edicts.

1. Wash your face every morning.

If you have a thorough night cleansing regimen, it's OK to bypass the morning wash. Skip straight to toner instead.

2. Glitter is for teenagers.

There is really no age limit for glitter and shimmer products; an illuminator can actually reflect light, making wrinkles less pronounced. But as with most things, everything in moderation is still key.

3. Always wear black mascara.

Black can look harsh during daytime hours, so consider opting for something softer. Try clear mascara to lengthen lashes sans smudginess. Brown is also a good, neutral alternative, particularly for blondes.

4. Self-tanner is for the fairest skin tones.

Dark-skinned women can benefit from a fake tan, too. In fact, bronzer on deeper complexions can make the skin appear smoother and give it a subtle glow.

5. Red is reserved for lips and nails only.

Red is the classic lip colour for bombshells everywhere (redheads, too), but don't be afraid to spread the hue to eyes and cheeks for a rosy flush.

6. Avoid liner on lower lashes.

Raccoon-ish eyeliner was once considered a faux pas. If you use a waterlining technique, however, you'll get definition to your eyes without the Halloween effect.

7. False lashes are not daytime-appropriate.

Your over-the-top lashes deserve to see the light of day. You can create a toned-down look, though, by placing individual lashes on the outer corners.

8. Make-up should match your ensemble.

Sure you can tie in colours from your outfit into your lip colour or eye shadow. But isn't contrary style much more interesting?

@Lady-T Try terracotta and brick reds on eyes - they go really well with copper. It's a bit more subtle for the less brave :)

Because my lashes are already black, i use an eye lasher curler and a clear mascara, its a great natural look for day time.
