This week, our celebrity reviewer is DJ Suga from Heart 104.9FM. It was her birthday earlier this month so at BeautySA thought we'd treat her a little. She gives us her take on Givenchy's Dahlia Noir and the Noir Couture 4-in-1 mascara.
Dahlia Noir, R575 for 30ml EDT and R660 for 30ml EDP
One of my better-known secrets is that I'm a fragrance junkie, so the arrival of Givenchy's new creation,
Dahlia Noir was a cause of great excitement at the Funk Lab.
The Eau De Toilette incorporates fruity, woody and vanilla flavours, which makes the fragrance light but warm, sensual and very sweet. It reminds me of those pink powdery sweets usually tied together on a string and found in children's party packets.
The bottle is elegant and beautiful and looks stunning on a gorgeous dressing table surrounded by other beautiful things. I found the 50ml bottle a bit too big to carry in my handbag and as such could not reapply the fragrance during the day, which I found I needed to. I know
layering the fragrance with a body wash or body lotion would assist in this regard. I wore it continuously for two weeks and as I work in a fairly informal environment, where hugs from colleagues are normal and frequent, I did find the huggers to linger a bit longer.
One unusual feature was how present the fragrance was the morning after wearing it. The vanilla flavour seemed to come out a bit more and this made it a bit sassier. This sophisticated fragrance would suit any woman who loves floral touches. I would buy it as a gift, but not necessarily for myself as it's a little too sweet.
Noir Couture Mascara, R350
Make-up artists are united in their opinion that
mascara is a must-have product in any woman's make-up bag. I don't wear a lot of make-up but I never leave my house without mascara.
Givenchy's Noir Couture mascara does exactly what it promises to do, although I had to do a
Youtube search to figure out exactly how the brush head works.
The defining feature is definitely the brush head, with its triple ball design, and this is where it gets interesting. The spaces between the balls, the fibres used and the balls themselves all work together to make the lashes gorgeous, lustrous and outstanding.
Initial applications resulted in a bit of smudging on the lid because a lot of the product comes with the brush as you take it out of the tube coupled with negotiating the brush head. I also experienced a bit of clumping but I put tis down to getting to grips with the brush head.
The mascara itself smells divine and this adds to the luxurious feel. The tube is uber-stylish with its black and silver detailing. I absolutely love it and would recommend it to anyone who desires bold,
rockstar lashes.
