Dress a wedge-shaped body

Saturday, March 03, 2012   |
Dress a wedge-shaped bodyIt’s a good idea to know your body shape and to dress for that shape; it’s far more flattering – and we at BeautySouthAfrica.com are all about looking the best we can (rather than blindly following fashion or celebs).

You know you have a wedge body shape if your shoulders are the broadest part of your body. The wedge body shape is also known as the inverted triangle body shape. Here are a few tips for dressing your best when you have a wedge body shape.

WHAT IS A WEDGE-SHAPED BODY?

Also known as the inverted triangle, this body shape features a broad upper body. The waist and hips are smaller in proportion, giving the body an inverted triangle or wedge body shape.

WHICH CELEBRITIES HAVE A WEDGE-SHAPED BODY?

If you have a wedge or inverted triangle body shape, you can count these celebrities as your style sisters. Renee Zellweger, Teri Hatcher, Demi Moore, Naomi Campbell, and Jennifer Garner all have wedge body shapes, characterised by broader upper bodies and narrow lower bodies.

HOW TO DRESS A WEDGE-SHAPED BODY

1. Draw the eye down. Since a wedge body shape means your shoulders are the broadest part of your body, your style goal is to draw the eye downwards toward the narrower parts of your body, such as your waistline.
2. Steer clear of strappy styles. Spaghetti strap styles draw attention to your shoulders – a major no-no for wedge body shapes. Boatnecks are a style don't, too.
3. Brighten up your bottom. Don't be afraid of wearing bright colours on your bottom half. Again, this draws the eye down to the narrowest part of your wedge body shape.
4. Be 'waistful.' Create the illusion of a waist with a wide belt or high-waisted styles.

A well-chosen outfit that is flattering to your body shape is going to do far more for your appearance and confidence than any latest designer garb that doesn’t do anything for your particular look.

I am a wedge shape! Swimmers often have a wedge shape because their shoulders are broader than their hips. Difficult to dress sometimes, I look top heavy!

I never knew there was this shape.. i always thought it was slim fat or round, plump.I personally dont like this picture though, she looks very boney and the dress doesnt do much justice.
