My favourite poor little rich girl has to be
Blake Lively – or rather her character Serena in
Gossip Girl. The chick can be going through the most dramatic turmoil, yet her pout stays perfect and her
hair perfectly imperfect. And I'm convinced the girl has never hand washed a dish in her life. The only water that touches those fingers is surely enriched with minerals and other nourishing spa-additives – when she goes for her weekly mani of course, dahling.
The girl also just landed the gig to be the face of
Gucci Premiere, an opulent fragrance offering from the designer brand.
HAIR
The ultimate NY girl's hair is all hot mess – but it doesn't happen by itself. Blow dry hair with a large brush for volume, then use a curling wand from the mid-lengths down on large, irregular sections – you don't want actual curls, just some waves and texture. When you're done, if any curls did form, separate them with your fingers, and give your head the once-over with hair spray. While the hair spray is drying, lift roots with fingers or a comb for sexy, messy volume (no hardcore teasing though) and scrunch together some of the lengths with your fingers – the last thing you want is for your hair to look too 'done'.
MAKE-UP
COMPLEXION
Skin should look translucent and not very made-up, so try a medium coverage foundation like
Smashbox's High Definition Healthy FX SPF15,
R330, or a tinted moisturiser that gives some form of coverage, like
Make-up to Match by Essence,
R55. Sweep a pinky-coral blusher like
Catrice's Defining Duo Blush 020,
R45, just under the cheekbones in the direction of the temples. Next, use a highlighter on every surface that stands out – cheekbones, brow bones, down the length of your nose and even the tip of your chin. This illuminates the complexion and creates radiance. If you have less-than-perfect skin texture, finish off this look with
Catrice's Prime and Fine Translucent Loose Powder,
R75.
EYES
Pastel and gray eye shadows works best with this look –
Clarins' Eye Quartet in Graphites,
R415, is perfect, as long as you skip the darkest shade. Apply grey in the corner and into the crease, followed by a pastel colour (pink/peach in this palette, but violet or mint would also be great depending on your eye colour and skin tone) also blended into the crease, and lastly a very light silvery colour with subtle shimmer to fill the rest of the lid and extend to the brow bone. Apply a thin kohl line to upper and lower lashes, and follow with
mascara – lately my go-to mascara has been
ScandalEyes by Rimmel,
R90.
LIPS
Lips are
fairly toned down. Instead of a gloss, try something like
Maybelline's ColorSensational High Shine lip colour,
R90 in a muted tone like Ice Tea. It's a little more understated than your standard 100 Watt lip gloss – because you're a classy girl, after all ;)
