Get the look: Jennifer Lawrence

Thursday, May 24, 2012   |
"GetJennifer’s hair looks as if she did herself in all of two minutes, making it a really easy look to pull off yourself. As for her make-up, her smoky cat-like eyes are going to require a little more skill. Fortunately, with the right products, you’re already half way there.

HAIR

To copy Jennifer’s casual up do, you’re going to need hair that’s at least as long as your shoulders. If you don’t already have a fringe, ask your hairdresser to cut you one that falls just below your eyebrows and is graduated at the sides. They are to then snip into it to create a slightly ‘chopped into’ look.

Once you’ve got the right cut, give your hair a bit of texture as well as a subtle wave by spritzing it with a sea salt spray while it’s still wet. (We like Lee Stafford Sea Salt spray, R95) Give it a tousle at the roots to create a bit of volume and then allow it to air dry. You’re then to tie it up in a messy bun, secure it with a few pins or a hair band that closely matches the colour of your hair. To finish up, pull out a few strands around your face.

MAKE-UP

Face: To create a matte even-looking complexion, apply a mid-weight foundation like Woolworths Longwear Max Cover foundation, R99,95. If you still need a little more coverage for dark circles or blemishes, hide them away with a light-reflecting concealer. To set the look, give your T-section a light dusting of powder and stay matte throughout the evening.

Eyes: Make your eyes smoulder by lining them with something like Clarins’ Eye Pencil in Black, R170. It comes with a little ‘rubber’ on the back so that when you’re done creating your line, you can use it to smudge things up a little. This way, your look will be soft and smoky as opposed to hard and flat. This also means that you don’t have to worry so much about getting your line just right. Next, use a silvery-grey eye shadow on your entire eyelid, extending the colour just above your crease and blending it outwards and upwards to create a slight ‘cat eye’ effect. Afterwards, blend a little of the shadow just beneath your lower lash line. To finish up, add even more drama by applying two or three coats of a volumising mascara like Bloom Full n’Flirty Waterproof Fake Lash mascara, R250.

Cheeks: Give your cheekbones the slightest hint of colour with a sheer natural-looking blush like Lancome Rose Subtil in Rose Fresque, R430, a ‘barely there’ rose petal pink.

Lips: As your eyes are the focus, keep your lips muted and natural-looking with something like Pure Romance Kiss & Tell tingling lip gloss in Make Me Blush, R130. It’s a lovely pale pink shade infused with enough menthol to help enhance your pout.
