Her hair
First she’s black then she’s blue and suddenly she’s blonde! If there’s one hair do that’s hard to keep up with it belongs to Katy Perry. If you want to emulate the pale blonde crop with a few pastel pink highlights, here’s how to go about it.
To copy Katy’s cut simply take a picture of her look to your hairdresser or ask for a chin length bob that’s shorter at the back and longer at the front. If you’re after the colour too and its more than three shades lighter than your natural hair colour, don’t attempt to do it at home. Rather ask your salon’s colourist to help you get the look.
If you’re brave they can also slip in a few pale pink highlights around the crown as well as the underside of your locks, but we suggest you give it a test drive by using a non-permanent hair colour first. We like
Lee Stafford Colour Xtreme coloured hair spray*,
R59.99. It applies in seconds and disappears with just one wash.
Her skin
Start by evening out your skin tone with a medium-weight foundation. Next, apply a bit of concealer under your eyes and mattify your T-section using a good
oil-absorbing powder. (We like
MAC Blot powder,
R220, because you can apply it several times throughout the day and it never cakes up.) To add a pop of colour, apply a rosy-coloured blush to the apples of your cheeks, something like
Rimmel mono blush in Pink Rose,
R62.95.
Her eyes
To make your eyes sparkle like the pop star first apply a bronze eye shadow to your entire eye lids (something like
Benefit Creaseless cream eye shadow in Busy Signal**,
R215) and just along the bottom of your lower eye lids. Next use a little gold in the crease. Then line your eyes using a bronze-coloured eye pencil and finish up with a few slicks of a black
volumising mascara.
Her lips
Katy’s kept her lips very neutral-looking with a matte, nude coloured lip stick. (She’s actually told several magazines that she doesn’t like wearing gloss at all because she always ends up getting it stuck in her hair). To recreate her pout get your hands on a lip pencil that matches your lips exactly. You can make your mouth look a little bigger than it really is if you create a line that sits just ever so slightly outside your natural lip line. To finish, colour in your lips with a non-shimmery nude coloured lipstick, something like
The Body Shop Colourglide lip colour in Clover Pink,
R99.
Katy’s faves
We trawled the net to find a few of Katy’s favourite cosmetics and discovered that the singer’s a big fan of the following:
• Benefit Benetint lip stain**
• Palmer’s Cocoa butter body lotion (she doesn’t leave the house without it)
• Baby wipes which she uses to cleanse her hands as well as her face
• Minx nails. ‘They’re fabulous. They last forever. And there is no drying time, so literally if I needed to pack my apartment after I got my nails done, I could,’ Perry told American
Glamour magazine.
•
Purr, her very own perfume, obviously...
