As we've mentioned before, our theme this month is all about
pampering, indulgent beauty so it's fitting that our local 'Get The Look' celeb would be a beauty queen like Melinda – someone who's (beautiful) face is their
fortune.
Want to copy her crown-worthy golden locks and natural yet glamorous make-up? Here's how to pull it off...
HAIR
If you're not as blonde as Melinda, it's easy to lighten up your hair. However, if your natural colour is three or more shades darker than hers, we suggest you give box dye a skip and chat to your colourist.
Wella are about to launch
Illumina, a new in-salon hair colour that promises sheer all-over colour that reduces any impurities (like tiny metal particles) in your hair to ensure it reflects even more light than ever before.
To keep your new hue looking good, invest in a good
treatment, something like
Dove Damage Therapy Intensive Repair Conditioner,
R56. It's an easy every day indulgence that, despite being a conditioner, gives masque-like results in just one minute flat.
MAKE-UP
SKIN
Want a subtle all-over glow? Try a self-tan. As it turns out, Melinda's an ambassador for St Tropez
self-tan so we imagine she'd use something like
St. Tropez's Self Tan Bronzing Mousse,
R555, to keep her skin looking a little bronze even in the dead of winter. To give your face a bit of colour and coverage, skip out on the heavy foundation and try a lightweight tinted moisturiser like
Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture,
R495. We like that it also contains an SPF of 15.
EYES
To recreate Melinda's slightly smoky bronze eye make-up (yes, you can do a
smoky eye with shades other than charcoals and silver), start by using a dark brown metallic eye pencil like
Inglot Full Metal Eyeliner in 530,
R159, to line your top lash line. It comes with a 'smudger' on the end so you can 'smoke out' your line when you're done. Next, use a shimmery pale gold-coloured eye shadow on your entire eyelid, extending the colour just above your crease and blending it along the lower lash line of each eye. (Just so you know, applying any very light shade in the inner corner of each eye will help to 'open up' your eyes and make you look more awake.) Now use a dark bronze eye shadow in the crease of your eyes, extending it out into the corners to create a slight
cat-eye effect. Both of these eye shadow colours are included in
The Body Shop's Baked-to-Last Eye Colour in Copper,
R120. Use a bullet-shaped eye shadow brush to blend the two shades well. To finish, slick on two coats of a volumising mascara like
BLAH,
R99, to both your top and bottom lashes.
CHEEKS
Add a hint of fresh-looking colour to the apple's of your cheeks with a soft petal-coloured blush like
Bloom Hibiscus Powder Blush,
R200.
LIPS
Finish up by giving your lips a light tint of shimmering colour with something like
Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Rose Shimmer,
R180.
