Getting squeaky clean

Thursday, July 19, 2012   |
No one likes going to the dentist, but it's something we have to do. We all know how great that feeling is when we step out of the dentist torture chair and our teeth feel smooth, look shiny and are sparkly clean. Sadly, it doesn't last very long. So until your next trip to the dentist, try some of these products that can help keep your mouth (and you) on track till then.

Get squeaky clean teeth

Brush brush brush

Brushing your teeth twice daily should come as natural as washing your face. If you're thinking of upgrading to an electric toothbrush, go for one that oscillates and pulsates, not just vibrates. They reach those hard-to-get places and remove plaque more effectively, improving your overall oral hygiene. Try, the Oral B Professional Care 500 electric toothbrush, R499.

Toothpaste

You can't brush your teeth (properly) without slapping on some paste. Choose a toothpaste that will suit your needs – whether it's for sensitive teeth, to help whiten them toofies or for fresher breath, the options are nearly endless. Try, White Glo 2 in 1 Toothpaste (125ml with free brush pack), R39.99 or Beverly Hills Formula Sensitive, R39.99.

Feeling flossy

Usually made from nylon or teflon, this thin floss helps you get in between those tight spaces your toothbrush might not be able to. If you find this kind of floss keeps getting stuck between your teeth, try using a waxy version. We recommend Eco Dent Mint 100 Yards Dental Floss from Harmless House, R75.

Interdental brush handle

If floss is just not for you, invest in an interdental brush handles. They work like floss by helping you reach those tricky spaces between teeth. They also help remove traces of plaque and food debris to stimulate blood circulation to your gums. These are often disposable, so when the brush head becomes worn you should replace it. These are great for people who have braces or a bridge for after brushing. Try Clicks' Interdental Brush Handle (with three brush heads) R29.99.

The freshest breath

Using an oral mouthwash will not only freshen your breath but also help to strengthen and whiten teeth – they kill bacteria that cause gum disease. Try rinsing your mouth with one after brushing your teeth. We recommend Retardex Oral Rinse 250ml, R59.99.
