Organic and natural buys under R180

Tuesday, July 31, 2012   |
We all want to look our best, while feeling our best and doing our best for the planet. That's a lot of pressure don't you think? Especially when it often comes at such a high price – literally. Make-up and skincare products don't really come cheap, but BeautySA has found these budget natural and organic beauty buys, all for under R180.

MAKE-UP

Inthusiasm Natural Cosmetics Liquid Foundation, R180 for 35ml
Inthusiam's liquid foundation comes in glass bottles with tubes as refills. The light-weight foundation offers buildable coverage with a bit of a minty, earthy smell – ingredients include cinnamon bark, rosemary leaf, lavender flower, lemon peel and peppermint extracts.

The Body Shop Concealer, R99
The creamy concealer contains Community Trade marula oil to moisturise and condition your skin, while the beeswax seals in moisture and the vitamin E acts as an antioxidant.

Zao Cream Eyeshadow, R179
Not just an eye shadow, Zao's cream shadow can be used as blush, lipstick or corrector. The multi-purpose shadow should be applied with your finger and blends to create a powdery finish. Certified as organic by Ecocert, Zao's cream eye shadow ingredients are 100% natural, 10% organic and are not tested on animals. What's great is that the bamboo casing is refillable so there's no need to keep chucking it in the bin.

Inthusiasm Natural Cosmetics Eye Pencil, R100
This soft kohl eye pencil blends really well, so you can do a lovely smoky eye with it. Ingredients include potato starch, calcium stereate, jojoba seed oil and vitamin E, and is uninhabitable by bacteria, so it should last longer than other pencils.

The Body Shop Big & Curvy Mascara, R99
The Body Shop is known for its Fair and Community Trade ingredients, and their Big & Curvy mascara is no different. Ingredients include Community Trade marula oil from Eudofano Women's Co-operative in Namibia, African Community Trade beeswax and advanced polymers and natural complex.

Inthusiasm Natural Cosmetics Lipstick, R110
This mineral-based lipstick is 100% natural, contains no animal products, synthetic chemicals or alcohol. Aside from providing broad-spectrum UVB and UVA protection and being water-resistant, Inthusiasm's natural lipstick offers great, moisturising colour. It also smells like a regular lipstick – in case you were thinking it had a herbal scent to it.

Badger Lip Tint and Shimmer, R77
More a solid lip balm than a liquid tint, Badger's Lip Tint and Shimmer smells a bit like chocolate (yum). Its certified organic ingredients include extra virgin olive oil, beeswax, Fair Trade certified cocoa butter, aloe vera, seabuckthorn berry and rosehip.

Victorian Garden Cucumber & Jojoba Eye Make-up Remover, R56 for 50ml
This refreshing and cooling make-up remover has no discernible scent, but combines seaweed and organic aloe with cucumber extract and jojoba wax. It's hypoallergenic and pH balanced.

SKINCARE

Esse Gel Cleanser, R130 for 100ml
With a pH balance of 4.5, this foaming (and slightly tingling) wash contains peppermint and spearmint oils that form part of its other 100% natural ingredients. Certified organic by ECOCERT, the gel cleanser is safe to use on blemish-prone skin and can also double up as a body wash.

Esse Cocoa Exfoliator, R180 for 50ml
Suitable for all skin types, Esse's exfoliator relies on fine cocoa particles. With 56.5% of the total ingredients derived from organic farming, it also contains wild African oils.

SOiL Organic Shea Butter, R80
High in vitamins A and E, pure shea butter can improve skin conditions such as scarring, acne, eczema, psoriasis and stretch marks, as it’s a powerful moisturizer that protects and nourishes skin.

Sante Mint Toothpaste, R49
Sante's Mint toothpaste doesn't leave behind a pasty residue but contains active ingredients of sage, organic green tea extract and xylitol. Made from real chalk, it offers gentle cleaning.

Ju'Me Balm, R130 for 50ml
A non-greasy, multi-purpose balm, soothes eczema-prone skin, nourishes dry and itchy skin and can help create a radiant complexion.

Thank you for this article. Some interesting suggestion. Been thinking of the green option for sometime as far as possible. Physicians Formula should be available at more outlets or online. You either have to go to Dischem in Durban or order on ebay.
