The scent of summer

Scent is a powerful memory trigger. The first time you apply sunscreen after a long winter, a whiff of the ocean, the lingering fragrance of jasmine on the breeze… these amazing smells take you right back to the warmth of summers gone by, which is just one reason why it’s the perfect season for a new go-to fragrance.

Research has proven that skin chemistry can change in the hot weather, so you’ll probably find that perfumes you loved during the winter are a little too heavy and overpowering in the warm weather. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the best new fragrances for summer… now go forth and make new sun-scented memories!

The scent of summer

Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey Summer 2012, R615 for 100ml

Dive into this delightfully cool, sparkling eau de toilette. Crisp and fresh, it has top notes of rose and pear water that mingle enticingly with the floral middle notes of peony and carnation. The base is a delicate combination of osmanthus and precious wood, which enhance the scent’s velvety notes. Sophisticated and classic, it’s the perfect signature scent for summer.

Calvin Klein Eternity Summer, R550

It’s the perfect fragrance to offset a humid summer day. Inspired by sunny fields of wild flowers and a cool gentle breeze, the fragrance opens with accords of Japanese pear martini, orange blossom and bergamot, settling in with a heart of gardenia, white peony and blue hyacinth. The base notes are made of Tonka bean, heliotrope and white musk. It’s the perfect light, romantic summer fragrance to keep in your handbag at all times.

Burberry Summer, R990 for 100ml EDT

This is a crisp and clean scent that lives up to the chic, tailored reputation of its creator. Bottling those rare, balmy scents of a British summer day, this fragrance has a citrusy mix of orange, mandarin and green leaf that is light and not too sweet. The floral heart is made up of delicate flowers such as freesia, honeysuckle, lily of the valley and white rose.

Giorgio Armani Code Luna, R719 for 50ml EDT

Giorgio Armani’s new fragrance is described in three words – feminine, seductive and sensual. Perfect for the party season! Inspired by the Greek Goddess of the full moon Séléné, who is also known as Luna, this perfume captures the mysterious glow of the moon in the morning light. The moonflower, or mirabilis, blooms only at night and sets the tone for this citrusy, oriental scent. With Italian bergamot top notes, the heart includes orange blossom and mirabilis with a base of vanilla pod.

  1. I would love to try the Burberry fragrance! I have tried the Armani Code Luna and it was quite nice, but it smelled a bit cheaper than I expected it to.
