We all know the Vodacom Durban July
is a more than just horse races; it's one of the fashion highlights of the year. Who wore it best? And who had the best design?
Well this year the theme was 'A Material World'. Glitz and glam were still invited, but the outfits that would wow the judges would be ones that were earth-friendly. Designers got creative and dressed our local celebs and models in what would support the green cause
Fashion students also took on challenge to be creative and this year the winner of The Best Outfit went to third year Durban University of Technology student Tammy Sturrock. Tammy stole the limelight with her chic, two-piece outfit printed with green leaves, a beige turban and leather gloves. She had bare make-up on, but opted for a bright red matt lip.
Bloemfontein designer Mmuso Moilopai scooped the hotly contested Fashion Challenge award. It was her elegant hessian and checked ensemble beautifully finished with splashes of colour in the embroidery which won her the national competition. The focus was more on the outifit than the make-up, so she kept it simple with a nude lippie.
Some of the 'A Material World' fashion designs and outrageous fashionistas really added to the theme's wow factor. Kayla Meyer and Justin van Niekerk, dressed by Josey Rage, with Mother Earth inspiration. We love the avant-garde make-up and rather large false eyelashes of Sharde Visagie, dressed by Lavashni Valjee. Kristelle Strydom, dressed by Nika Couture, used number plates to help complete her skirt. She also completed her outfit with a matching deep red lip, which complimented her blue and red frock.
Chantal Cronje, dressed by Hester Cronje, showed her love for our planet with her red and heart design. Red nails and gold make-up designs finished off her look.
Terraneh Pillay, dressed by Yasmin Saanglae definitely went green! We love her subtle green eye shadow.
Our local celebs also dressed up for the occasion. Miss SA First Princess Remona Moodley and Miss SA Melinda Bam went for a less-is-more subtle make-up, while Jo-Ann Strauss, in a Gideon design, also kept to a minimum with blue eye shadow on her top lid, plain eyeliner and a glossy lip.
Our Vodacom Bulls rugby players (from left Francois Hougaard, Chilliboy Ralepele, Wynand Olivier and Akona Ndungane) also looked rather spiffy and neat. Zuraida Jardine (with her lovely husband) also looked gorgeous with bold eyes, a simple pin back of her hair and a sequined dress.
