Heat styling is a hot topic for us at BeautySA. ‘Are the plates too hot’, ‘should they be used on wet hair’, ‘how often can I use my flatiron’ are typical questions we’ve had to answer recently. But the most important advice we can give you is to never use an inferior product. Below we’ve listed our favourite stylers at the moment…
GlamPalm Standard Magic Hair Styler, R1,899
Specs:
• custom ceramic plates with Healing Stone tech
• rapid heating and heat recovery
• adjustable temperature settings (150 – 200 degrees)
• 3-metre swivel cord
• heat resistant cap
• automatic shut off
• sectioning clips
We love: the Healing Stone technology that actually heals your hair as it styles. The negative ions emitted from the plates smooth the cuticle layer, minimising keratin damage. Oh, and it also has this pretty nifty vibrate function – it’s a great reminder if you’ve kept the plates on your strands for too long!
BaByliss Sublim’ Touch 2-in-1
Specs:
• temperature regulator with LED screen (130 – 200 degrees)
• flat and curved plates
• ceramic-coated Sublim’ touch plates
• locking system for plates
• automatic switch off
• swivel cord
We love: the curling top plates that make it just as easy to curl as it is to straighten your locks. Simply turn the styler 180 degrees upwards and slowly glide it over the length of your hair.
Toni&Guy Professional Straightener
Specs:
• temperature control and lock with LED screen (80 – 230 degrees)
• ceramic tourmaline floating plates
• auto shut off
• 3-metre swivel cord
We love: the super fast speed with which the styler heats up. You can literally watch the temperature rise in less than 60 seconds on the sleek and stylishly designed LED screen.

Toni&Guy Professional Straightener
This hair straighter is phenomenal I love it.
With other hair straighters i have to keep going over my hair but not with my Toni&Guy works perfet from the first stoke.
I own a GlamPalm…I simply love this flatiron it is remarkable. My husband bought this as a gift to me for my 30th birthday and I can honestly say that I will never ever go back to using another flat iron. The fact that the plates don’t pull your ends as you glide it through your hair because the plates have springs in them that moves and curves with your hair. This flat iron has healing treatment in the plates itself that makes your hair look so much healthier. The more you use it the better your hair looks over time. Not to mention the time it takes to flat iron your hair takes half the time it would normally take because both plates heats up therefore just one glide per section works like a charm. The GlamPalm is truely the best flatiron for me. Love love love it:)
Hey Jodi, Thanks so much for weighing in! I’m definitely going to give the GlamPalm a go – Aléz, BSA
I own a Toni & Guy, it’s affordable and really good….
I still love my Ghd!!
Has been faithful to me for 7 years now :-)
I don’t mind using any straightener because I have a weave on. Otherwise my hair doesn’t meet with the heat.
I currently have a GHD and it’s great, but Toni & Guy hair straighteners are quite good too… perfect and affordable.
The Glam Palm is the best! It is the love of my life. Ladies you’ll have to get it. It works wonders
